Garlic has long been believed to possess medicinal properties, with clinical research supporting some of these claims. Initially, it was thought that the active compound in garlic was allicin, formed when the amino acid alliin combines with the enzyme alliinase upon garlic being damaged. However, research indicates that allicin is unstable and degrades quickly into compounds called diallyl sulfides, which also have beneficial properties, though not as potent as allicin. In aquaria, garlic is commonly used to improve fish health, particularly in systems dealing with parasites. While GARLICPOWER is not intended as a medication, garlic can encourage feeding in newly-added or finicky fish when their food is soaked in garlic extract. This method should not replace the need to research and meet the specific dietary and environmental needs of fish species. Instructions and Guidelines: To Fortify Prepared Food (Recommended): Shake product well before use. Place food in a clean container (small bowl or cup). Add enough GARLICPOWER to saturate the food. Allow at least 5 minutes for the product to be absorbed before feeding. For Liquid Food Suspensions: Add 1.0 ml (approximately 8 drops) of GARLICPOWER per 10 ml of food suspension. Stir to mix and allow 5 minutes before feeding. Maximum benefit is achieved when the food is target-fed to the intended organisms rather than dispersed randomly in the aquarium. Over several months, the dosage may be increased by 50% if desired, as long as water quality is maintained within required ranges. Direct Addition to Aquarium: Shake product well before use. Add 5 ml (1 capful) of GARLICPOWER per 50 US gallons of aquarium water every other day, or half that dosage daily. When used this way, 125 ml treats up to 1,250 US gallons (4,732 L). Monitor water quality carefully and adjust as needed. No medicinal claims are made for GARLICPOWER. However, fish showing signs of ectoparasites may benefit from the addition of garlic to their diet. If ectoparasites are present, GARLICPOWER can be added to food as recommended and dosed directly into the aquarium at half the recommended dosage.
